'02 Cardinals finished league play on top!
The Minor Mosquito Cardinals finished the regular season on top of the league and the boys earned themselves the pennant championship with a 14-3-1 record and 263 runs for/ 137 runs against.

This past weekend was the LDBA playoff tournament at Southwest London.  It started Friday night with a 17-4 victory over EBBA.  Saturday morning started at 9am with a game against the host Southwest and in a tight game the Cardinals lost 10-8 to send them down that long but often travelled road to the final.  Game 3 was at noon against Oakridge in a must win game to go to the finals.  The boys were determined to  make an appearance in the final and played a great team game with a 15-8 win.

The finals started at 3 pm on Saturday and there on the other side of the diamond was season rival Southwest.  With Southwest being undefeated in the tournament, the Cardinals had to beat them twice in this double knockout tournament.  This game had it all,  great pitching, perfect base running and like the season had showed amazing team play by the Cardinals.  The final score was 5-2.

Final 2 was a winner take all game.  Southwest came out to an early lead in the top half of the 1st but St. Thomas matched that when they were given the chance.  The Cardinals didn’t look back after they tied the game in the 1st.  They went on to score 2 runs in the 2nd and another in the bottom of the 6th to win the game 4-1.  This game had everything and also had a first for the Minor Mosquito Cardinals.  A complete game pitched by a starter (7 innings, 71 pitches) this was possible by a complete team effort and everyone bringing their “A” game.  AWES-mazing job this weekend boys!
