Pitching and Defence Wins Ball Games

The St. Thomas Optimist Mosquito Cardinals are back in the win column after a great defensive ball game at Stronach Park.

Silas Hulst and Trevor Loebach combined on a 3-hitter over seven innings in a 10-3 win over the London Badgers.

The Cards offence came out of the gate and provided their starter a 3-0 lead after the top half of the first. They did the same in the second to take a 6-0 advantage. On the mound Silas Hulst gave them just the start they needed. Three innings, allowing just one run thanks to some strong defence behind him, and cutting down on the walks. Trevor Loebach came in to start the fourth, and was able to go the distance from there, throwing smoke over four solid innings while striking out eight of his twelve outs via the strikeout.

At the plate Christian Vecchio was in the leadoff spot for the first time this season, and came through scoring three times. Jamie Noviss went 2-3 right behind him, also scoring three times. Tyson Benwell also went 3-4, while Logan Mosher and Colin Weir each reached base three times.

It's the kind of offensive performance the Cards have been waiting for, and will hope to carry that into Sarnia Tuesday.
