Submitted By STMBA on Fri 09 23, 22
STMBA are pleased to present this year's $500 scholarships to two very deserving Cardinals.
Adam Fry and Eric Oakes have been announced as STMBA's 2022 Scholarship recipients.
Adam Fry, who has been both a Rep player and an umpire as well as a Program Instructor and Camp Leader for the City of St. Thomas, is starting a degree in Criminology at Laurier Brantford. Lauded by his coach as a helpful, hard-working player and a good teammate, Adam names humility as perhaps the most important quality his time with St. Thomas Minor Baseball has taught him. "To stay humble in baseball leads to respect earned from your teammates, coaches, and competitors," he says. "People appreciate someone who has humility, and they are seen as a positive individual and role model."
Eric Oakes, a long-time Rep player and umpire for STMBA, is headed to Fanshawe College for Police Foundations with a view to an eventual career in Law Enforcement. Recognized for his dedication, his leadership, and for the respectful way he approaches the game and all those involved with it, Eric cites both playing and umpiring as equally formative experiences. He sums up what he cherishes most from his time as a Cardinal in this way: "the competitive spirit of cheering on my teammates, the ability to learn from my mistakes, to learn how to compete with sportsmanship and to experience the overall enjoyment of playing a game that I love with the many teammates I have played with over the years." Congratulations to both Adam and Eric! STMBA wishes them success as they begin this next phase of their lives.
