Here it is, the
final word on pitch counts:
On days in which teams play more than one game:
55 pitches is the threshold for not being able to pitch in a subsequent game that day and on the next calendar day.
A pitcher that throws 55 or fewer pitches COMBINED between game 1 and game 2 may pitch in game 3 that same day.
Any pitcher that throws more than 55 pitches in game 1
or more than 55 pitches total between games 1 and 2
or does not pitch in game 1, but throws more than 55 pitches in game 2
cannot pitch in game 3.
The daily maximum is still 80 pitches counting all games.
Examples:
If you pitch 80 in game 1 you’re done for that day and the next.
If you pitch 45 in game 1 and 35 in game 2 you’re done for that day and the next
If you pitch 20 in game 1 and 15 in game 2, you can pitch 45 more in game 3 to reach a total of 80.
Remember, anyone who pitches more than 55 pitches tonight cannot pitch tomorrow. Anyone that pitched Thursday and pitches tonight cannot pitch on Saturday (you cannot pitch on 3 consecutive days regardless of pitch count).
Manage accordingly.
