LT tourney win
The weekend of July 19-21, the Bantam Cardinals were in London

The weekend of July 19-21, the Bantam Cardinals were in London for the London Tecumseh tourney.

Friday night was a wash due to thunderstorms in east London.

Saturday morning, the Cards started their tourney play with a 9-5 win over Halton Hills, a team we tied 3-3 back in June at our own tournament.

Next up was the Waterloo Tigers 2 team Saturday evening.  The Cardinal bats lit up before another thunderstorm rolled in...14-0 Cardinal win.

Not know how Sunday was going to progress with so many games lost due to weather, we waited to hear how tourney organizers were planning to continue, if at all.

Needing to play 1 more game Sunday morning to get all teams to 2 games played, the organizers altered their schedule to play 2 semi final games and a final Sunday afternoon.

We were able to advance to the semi finals with 3 other teams at 2-0...we drew Ajax for our match up.

After 4 innings the Cards were up 2-1, in a tight contest that featured excellent pitching on both sides of the diamond.  Like another thunderstorm rolling in, the crack of the Cardinal bats could be heard all over the park...the Cards put up a 4,4, and a 5 in the top of the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings respectively, for a 15-2 final and a berth in the championship game.

The final late Sunday afternoon featured your hometown Cardinals vs the always tough West London Tincaps.

The Tincaps started the game going up 4-0 after 2 complete innings.  But the Cards battled back, putting up 3 in the bottom of the 3rd, and another run in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game at 4.

The Cardinal bats added another run in the bottom of the 5th to go up 1.  But the Tincaps answered right back with 2 of their own in the top of the 6th to take a 6-5 lead. Then another in the top of the 7th to go up 2.

With the game on the line, Cardinal batters responded with 2 runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th, but leaving the winning run on 3rd base.

Now into extra innings, the Cards defence held the Tincaps off the board in the top of the 8th.

The Cardinals were able to get runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th.  Next batter hit a deep fly ball opposite field into right field...with the right fielder heavily shaded toward centre, we all held our breaths while the RF ran hard to try and track down this ball...he missed it, the ball bounced off his glove, while the runner at 2nd was tagged and ready to go, as soon as the ball was touched, he was off and scored easily from 2nd to win the game.

Congratulations Cardinals on a well played weekend.FB_IMG_1563753269234.jpg
