  • Recap
Game 1 saw the Cardinals fall 3-1 to the team from Port Dover.  This was obviously a pitcher's dual as neither team was able to push many runs across the plate.

Game 2 was Saturday and was delayed about 2 hours due to heavy rains.  The Cards prevailed in this one by a score of  8-7 against a team from Oakville.

Game 3, later on Saturday was against a team from Dundas.  Dundas jumped out to a large early lead, but the Cardinals never quit and almost came back.  Final score of this one was 9-8, for Dundas.

  • About
LDBA play-off is a double-elimination tournament.  There are 7 teams competing.  The format makes it impossible to schedule games much ahead of time as there are winner and loser brackets and opponents and game times are not known ahead of time.

Teams are Oakridge, EBBA, Wyoming, Southwest, North London, Aylmer and St. Thomas. Oakridge finished first and has a bye for round 1.

We do know, however that game 1 is 6:00pm Friday night (Emslie field) and Game 2 is 9:00am Saturday at City Wide.

    Saturday update

After 2 games today we are still alive and will be one of four teams playing on Sunday.

The 4 remaining teams are London North, Oakridge, Wyoming and YOUR St. Thomas Cardinals.

Although the Cardinals lost a very tought 7-6 9-inning game against Oakridge, the boys bounced back to beat EBBA late this afternoon.  The key inning was the top of the fifth when we scored 6 runs to break a 5-5 tie.  Held the EBBA squad to 0 runs in the bottom of the inning and the 2-hr curfew kicked in to seal the deal.

We will however be in tough against a very strong Wyoming squad early tomorrow.

    Sunday update

To be honest, I think expectations were low for this one as Wyoming had no problems against us during the regular season.  I don't think the boys got that message though since they came out flying batting through the entire order in the top of the fist and surprised Wyoming with 4 runs.  Wyoming seemed a bit nervous and the Cardinals were playing with no fear.  Despite giving up a couple runs in the bottom of the first, the Cardinals led 4 2 after 2 innings.  The Cards scored another in the top of the third but Wyoming scratched out 4 in the bottom to take a 6-5 lead.

Undeterred, the Cardinals battled back to tie it at 6 and then took a one run lead into the bottom of the seventh.  Unfortunately , a single and triple later it was all square and not looking good.  The Cardinals intentionally loaded the bases and deployed the 5-infielder strategy to hopeful cut the winning run down at home, but a super-slow roller was all it took - despite a valiant attempt - to drive home the winning run.

Despite the loss, it was a really solid weekend for the Cardinals and hopefully they will carry this forward to the OBAs in Simcoe.

    Go Cards Go!
