Baseball Is A Funny Game
One of the best aspects of the game of baseball is that you never know what is going to happen on any given day.
The St. Thomas Optimist Mosquito Cardinals went into action Monday with just nine kids due to a pair of injuries and a player on vacation. Only their three most underused pitchers were available and they were facing the top team in the league.
If the game was played on paper, London West would have won in a blowout.

But that's what makes this the greatest game on the planet. The Cardinals allowed the leadoff man to score and could have easily folded the tent, but they didn't. Alex Foshay pitched a gem and the Cards trailed just 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd. Christian Vecchio, Tyson Benwell, Jamie Noviss and Colin Weir all reached base and after a Tyler Lale two run single, it was 4-1 after the third inning. In the 4th, with Vecchio and Hunter Reichstein on base, Noviss delivered a crushing blow to the wall in right centre. The triple scored a pair and the hosts were shockingly in the lead 6-1.
Foshay would provide the longest outing from a starter all season going 5.1 innings giving up four runs. The lead was cut to just 6-4 going into the home half of the sixth, but the Cards had plenty more pop in their bats. After Reichsten, Vecchio and Benwell all singled, Noviss crushed nearly an identical shot to his previous triple. This one also hit the wall in right centre and when it was all said and done the final read 10-7 St. Thomas.
